Do you think your new LED TV doesn’t require an external stabilizer? Think Again!

Nowadays, consumers are being sold a myth that TV comes with an “In-built stabilizer” that is sufficient to protect the TV from unwanted voltage fluctuations and surges. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

Let’s Break Some Myths

Myths
Truth
Myth No.1

TV has an "In-Built Stabilizer"

cross-icon
The truth is there is no such thing as an “In-Built Stabilizer”.

What the TV Brands/Dealers refer (wrongly) to as an "In-Built Stabilizer" is SMPS (switch mode power supply).

And SMPS Is Not A Stabilizer: Unlike a stabilizer, SMPS doesn't stabilize AC voltage. SMPS just converts high input AC voltages (100-290 V) into low DC voltage (12/24V) which is then supplied to sensitive TV components.
Myth No.2

TV doesn’t need an external stabilizer for
protection against voltage fluctuations

cross-icon
A TV might function at varying & wide input voltage conditions due to built-in SMPS. But the varying input voltage will cause undue stress and heating of SMPS components which may lead to its degradation. It is often unnoticeable and thereby leads to its early life failure.

Thus, TV SMPS (the so-called “In-Built Stabilizer”) is itself at risk under varying input voltage conditions, and its failure leaves other sensitive and expensive components of the TV fully exposed to high AC input voltages.

The truth is, the so-called "In-built Stabilizer", can’t offer foolproof security to TV’s sensitive components from voltage fluctuations / spikes as a V-Guard Stabilizer does.

We have validated the same with tests* that clearly exposed the weakness of TV's SMPS.

Low Voltage Test

When TV SMPS gets exposed to continuous low AC voltage (i.e., 130 V instead of regular 220 V), then its temperature rises from a normal of 40-60 °C to 70-90 °C leading to thermal stress. Continuous operation with this amount of thermal stress may lead to SMPS failure. (This thermal stress may cause wear, tear and general component degradation, which may not be noticeable until failure).

High Voltage Test

When TV SMPS is exposed to continuous high AC voltage (i.e. 270V instead of regular 220 V), then its temperature rises from a normal of 40-60 °C to 70-90°C leading to thermal stress. Continuous operation with this thermal stress may lead to SMPS failure. (This thermal stress may cause wear, tear and general component degradation which may not be noticeable until failure)

And that’s not all:
TV SMPS may not be able to guard against voltage spike
voltage wave

Voltage Surge is a common phenomenon, especially when the power returns. It could also result from bad wiring, lightning strikes, generators, unfiltered electrical appliances etc. Since SMPS are of different makes (brand) there is no guarantee whether it has the feature of surge protection or not, while V-Guard Stabilizers always come with surge protection. Look what happens to TV SMPS when voltage spikes.

How To Choose The Right Stabilizer For Your TV

Here are 5 factors that you need to consider while choosing the right Stabilizer for your TV

01..
down-arrow TV Panel Size
Panel Size
While choosing the right TV stabilizer for your TV, you need to consider your TV’s Panel size i.e., 32, 43, 55, 80, etc.
02..
up-arrow Load Capacity
Load Capacity
To determine the ideal capacity of your TV Stabilizer, add the capacities of all the devices you want to power using your Stabilizer. Ex: TV + Home theatre/gaming console + set-top box
03..

It is the display on your Stabilizer. It could be an LED display with blinking lights, or a digital display screen.
About V-Guard
V-Guard’s origins date back to 1977 when Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly set out to build a robust brand in the Indian electrical and electronic goods market. With a small manufacturing unit for voltage stabilizers, a vision, and a strong make-do belief, apart from the capital of INR 100,000 that he borrowed from his father and two workers to assist him, he set sail on his dream.

The company soon expanded its range of products to include Digital UPS, Inverter and Inverter Batteries, Electric Water Heaters, Solar Water Heaters, Domestic Pumps, Agricultural Pumps, Industrial Motors, Domestic Switch Gears, Distribution Boards, Wiring Cables, Industrial Cables, Induction Cooktops, Mixer Grinders, Fans, Gas Stoves, Rice Cookers, Modular Switches & Air Coolers.

In less than five decades, V-Guard earned a reputation for solidity and reliability for in designing and manufacturing products that are built to last! Since then, V-Guard has embarked on a series of transformational exercises across customer service & supply chain management functions, ushering in a paradigm shift in sales & marketing and quality-first processes across the organization, to serve customers better and enhance their delight
